Feeling the burn, yet?

Feeling the burn, yet?

There is a rise in stress related disorders and illnesses. Anxiety, burnout, panic attacks, fear, and sleepless nights plague many people. Technology has been a gift to our civilization as well as being loaded with many unhealthy side effects. We are inundated with social media, emails, texts, PM messages, Voicemails, commercials, and images of people having more apparent fun and epic lives than we seem to be living! In actuality, all across the globe, people everywhere, are STRESSED and ANXIOUS.

Thankfully, at the same time, there has been a commensurate rise in “the solution.” People are more aware of the health benefits of yoga, meditation, eating clean and organic. The power of herbs, elixirs, tonics, and superfoods dominate health conversations these days and self care restorative practices are becoming more and more mainstream!

I am what you might call a “high energy” person. I get things done and done well. I can go all day and wake up for more. I have always had multiple side business ventures in addition to my full time career over the last 30 years and I was an early adopter on the internet when it was only a bunch of “chat rooms” and there was no email or websites! I am fast, efficient, and loyal. Hmmm…what could go wrong, right?

Well, for starters, sleep can elude me and I can randomly wake up at 3am with a full on flood of fear chemistry singing in my veins! I can feel anxious, burnt out, and overwhelmed by life…all by 8am. My immune system gets run down and I catch more colds that cross my path. When this goes on too long, my nervous system starts to get “twitchy.” Meaning, I will get random and odd pains in my body, headaches, a buzzy feeling in my mind/body connection, adrenal exhaustion and burnout are not far behind. I make terrible food choices (sugar, fat, flour) and my ability to RESPOND well to life’s turns becomes next to nothing and reactivity is all I can muster. NOT the ideal way to meet the challenges and choices ahead of me on any given day!

Without much digging around, it is obvious that people are seeking a way to sanity and rest. Some think it will happen when they retire, or move to a tropical island, or just one more workshop will contain the peace we seek. In the second paragraph I mentioned “the solution.” Thankfully, there is a path to restoring our natural defences to work with and hopefully prevent disease, addiction, soul disorder, mental freak out, and illness. In my business, Original Frequency, I have woven the restorative paths that have been of immeasurable benefit to my peace of mind. They are my solution. I also personally create and share, through public events and online courses, the chance to experience firsthand the power of “CHILL OUT!” The answer, that works best for me, lays within the general realm of restorative practices, of which there are many to choose from. Beautiful types of self care below that I have chosen for myself, and then have been called to share to the world at large, have been instrumental in restoring my nervous system and life.

The top 3 paths of stress relief I follow:

  1. I have chosen to focus on the healing power of frequency, vibration, and harmonic resonance that can be found in the world of Sound Healing (called Dream Yoga Sound Baths).
  2. I am dedicated to creating and sharing amazing elixirs, tonics, and superfood drinks that are packed with antioxidants, immune boosting properties and help prevent illness.
  3. On any given day I am most likely listening to Ambient, meditative, dreamy, and trance music that often has binaural beats. I have created a meditation series called Ambient Dreams Guided Meditations that take the listener in La La Land in the best way possible!

What are 4 things RIGHT NOW you can do to manage overwhelm, stress, and anxiety?

  1. Learn to breathe. What? That’s right, the power of breathing is underrated. Studies and personal experience show that we hold our breath multiple times a day. I am not talking 3-4 times. We hold our breath hundreds of times a day. OUCH! A simple way to bring breath awareness into your life is to take a long slow and mindful inhale, say…10 seconds. Then, slowly let it out, relaxing your shoulders and jaw, for another 10 seconds. Practice this MANY times a day. It’s a muscle…use it!
  2. The hot water trick. Hmmmm. Hot water, eh? Yep. Find the nearest sink, run hot water over your hands and wrists, close your eyes, and relax. This is a good time to practice your breathing. Hot water really helps to relax the nervous system!
  3. Connect your circuits. TCM (traditional chinese medicine) teaches that we have all these energy lines called meridians that run through our bodies. Much like our veins and arteries carry blood, our meridian circuits carry the subtle energy of life force, called chi (cheeee). Take all five fingers and place the tips of each finger against the tips of the fingers of the opposite hand. Now, adjust your fingers so it feels like you are cradling an invisible ball of energy inside your palms. BREATHE.
  4. Complete the circuits. The last trick to connecting up your circuits is to take the tip of your tongue and place it just behind your teeth, about 1 inch back. Drop your shoulder and again, breathe! As you practice this, you will feel the “click” when the circuits are connecting and now YOU are the container for your own life force to circulate through your body. Feelings of calm are normal and welcomed. Hold all your fingertips together while placing your tongue in the “secret spot” of the roof of your mouth and hold this for at least 3 full breaths. Enjoy!

BONUS TIP: Trace the labyrinth above with your finger while breathing mindfully..take at least 30 seconds to do this.

Coming into heart coherence

What is the Key to Moving into Collective Heart coherence?

This is quite the question and I believe it requires a lifetime to answer and has many different facets that can be explored. We are each unique beings and our Destinies are interwoven together and yet, each of us will find the Path to Heart Coherence on our own terms.

A quote below, by Master Zhuang, who was a Chinese philosopher, has always made an impression with me from the first moment I read it in book.

Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, a veritable butterfly, enjoying itself to the full of its bent, and not knowing it was Chuang Chou. Suddenly I awoke, and came to myself, the veritable Chuang Chou. Now I do not know whether it was then I dreamt I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man. Between me and the butterfly there must be a difference. This is an instance of transformation.”

We learn at some point on the Path of awakening that all Life on Earth is inter-connected Web of Life called The Dream.

An engaging, and highly seductive reality that is experienced, perceived, and felt in an unending number of permutations by each of us.

Our personal Karma, genetic ancestral lines, soul learnings, and collective morphogenetic fields, make up this dreaming that is unique to each one of us, and HOW we relationally move through it.

The Key to dancing with Life as we know it is to learn to come into Heart Coherence. This is discussed by the Heartmath Institute as:

“Coherence is the state when the heart, mind and emotions are in energetic alignment and cooperation,” HeartMath Institute Research Director Dr. Rollin McCraty says. “It is a state that builds resiliency – personal energy is accumulated, not wasted – leaving more energy to manifest intentions and harmonious outcomes.”

Each of us brings to the table our own ways in which we personally achieve Coherence. I have chosen to champion and focus on building compassion and Love through the use of ceremonial Sound meditations that regenerate the nervous system and create DEEP CALM and Alpha/Theta brain wave States. I call my business Original Frequency and I practice Conscious Sleep or Dream Yoga.

The cousin to this, practiced by many, is known as Yoga Nidra. Wikipedia describes it as such:

Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the “going-to-sleep” stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. The practice of yoga relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)”

Using the power of the Conscious Sleep Journey, also known as Ceremonial Dream Yoga I weave a variety of instruments together into an Ocean or Tapestry of Sound Frequencies that penetrate your body giving you a “sonic massage” and enlivening your energy pathways known in TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) and acupuncture studies as Meridians.

One of the key features to this sound journey is the phenomenon that people have the opportunity to explore called Lucid Dreaming. After about 20 minutes or so, most of us fall into the Theta Brain wave state and begin to deeply relax and our Inner Worlds begin to come alive. We see colours, have flash insights of creativity, images come and go, and we “day-dream” very readily in this stage.

What exactly is Sleep or Dreaming? What occurs during this time when supposedly we aren’t aware of being in either space? Can one awaken inside the Dream of Life and can one awaken while in deep sleep?

In these Conscious Sleep Sound Journeys, we have the chance to awaken within the Dreaming and become conscious to the landscape within. Being able to self direct in your dreams is known as Lucid Dreaming. I also like to add that any “teaching” dream, a dream where you learn a profound insight into yourself or others, or a dream that causes you to change your waking world, is also within the realms of Lucid Dreaming.

Heart coherence occurs when we synch our hearts and minds together and Dream or Breathe as ONE. The power of the many multiplies into a Wave that pulses through our group and Lifts us into a vibratory state. In this state I like to say that we become frequency and forget for a moment that we are solid bodies. In THAT state, we can do the impossible!

As we move into the New energies of 208, I invite you into the Mystery of Coherent Conscious Sleep, Yoga Nidra, Lucid Dreaming, Dream Yoga, and Sonic Meridian Massage. I invite you to find your Original Frequency and radiate it!

Therapeutics benefits of Sound Healing

IMG_0713

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Imagine the Void, it’s profoundly empty and full at the same time. A paradox. Soon, you begin to hear a very, very subtle hum. The hum becomes a song, the song becomes a choir, the choir begins to create light particles, the light particles begin to magnetize towards each other, and then…BANG! Light particles that were once frequencies smash into each other in a choreographed dance of sacred geometry and Matter appears out of “thin air.” Many cultures have creation myths where The World was “sung” into being. YOU are born from this Song, and you will return to the primordial sound of creation. Epic story all around! Now that we have a mutual agreement point that Vibration underlies all creation, we can begin.

Mitchell Gaynor, M.D. in his book, The Healing Power of Sound, says “ I had come to understand illness as a manifestation of disharmony with the body. Thus, the bowls (tibetan singing bowls), with their distinctive resonant tones, not only permitted me access to the “cosmic symphony”, but also a means by which harmony could be restored within the body on the physiologic as well as psychospiritual level.”

There is more and more research being done on the many different effects that the power of sound frequencies have upon our well-being and spiritual growth. Sound researchers have discovered that after a period of time listening to certain types of music and sound vibrations, that the parasympathetic nervous system in our bodies gives the “relax” messages to our organs and cells. In turn, this lowers blood pressure, respiration and heart rates which leads to a great reduction of stress and it’s accompanying hormones, like cortisol and epinephrine. These hormones, in excess, lead to degeneration of the body’s vital systems. Sound therapies like Gong baths, Crystal singing bowl therapy, Tibetan singing bowl concerts, toning, and some classical music compositions bring profound states of balance back to the physiology of the body, mind, and soul. The Brain begins to synchronize and drop into the alpha/theta brain wave states, reduced anxiety levels, lower blood pressure, increased immune cell messengers, and a boost in natural opiates. These endorphins are nature’s pain killers in our body. Dr. Raymond Bahr, director of coronary care at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore is quoted in The healing power of sound as saying “Without a doubt, music therapy ranks high on the list of modern-say management of critical care patients…it’s relaxing properties enable patients to get well faster by allowing them to accept their condition and treatment without excessive anxiety.”

Sound therapies can be applied in so many different settings such as, labor rooms and birth scenarios, death and dying experiences, chronic pain management, drug and alcohol rehabilitation protocols, mood disorders, creative and artistic pursuits, spiritual growth, and lucid dreaming states.

Integrating the different types of music, sound therapies, and vibrational tools into your life on a regular basis will lead to deep peace, insights, emotional well being, and healing on many levels. Find ways to join a choir, look up sound healers in your local area, play Mozart often, take up an instrument, get a “sound bath” or a “sonic massage!” Your Vibrational Journey back Home starts…NOW!
